The American Studies Center at HNU Presents:
Halloween Celebration 2014
This Halloween it is estimated that Americans will spend over $2 billion in candy alone. Halloween falls only second to Christmas in annual spending in theU.S.However, Halloween has been transformed from its vague beginnings to the commercial holiday that most of us are aware of today thus leaving most unacquainted with the celebration’s history. In order to bring forth the history behind the holiday to Hunan Normal University and in efforts to create a cultural bridge betweenChinaandAmericathe American Studies Center held a Halloween Celebration which featured a presentation on the history and facts of Halloween. In addition, the center featured the screening of Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” along with popcorn and candy for all students and ended with a raffle. All in all, the night was a success with over sixty students sharing a night of cultural exchange.
