Ian Dennis is a Full Professor of English at the University of Ottawa and Secretary-Treasurer of the Generative Anthropology Society and Conference. He has published four novels: Bagdad: A Romance (Macmillan, 1985), The Prince of Stars (Macmillan, 1987), The Thief-Taker (with Sean Russell, Random House, 2001) and The Emperor's Assassin (with Sean Russell, Random House, 2003). He is the author of the Girardian study, Nationalism and Desire in Early Historical Fiction (Macmillan 1997), of Lord Byron and the History of Desire (Delaware 2009), a work of literary criticism making use of both mimetic theory and generative anthropology, and of 27 peer-reviewed scholarly book chapters and journal articles on various subjects. He has also published many book reviews including in The Globe and Mail (“Canada’s National Newspaper”) and various scholarly journals. He was the chief organizer of the 2009 and 2022 GASC conferences in Ottawa, and co-organizer in 2013 at UCLA, 2019 in New York City and 2024 in Tokyo. He is currently working on a book-length work of GA theory tentatively titled Varieties of Aesthetic Experience.
